The number-one reason sliding doors stop gliding
A sliding glass door weighs anywhere from 120 to well over 300 pounds, and every ounce of it rides on two small rollers hidden in the bottom of the panel. Near the coast those rollers live a brutal life: salt air corrodes the bearings, humidity swells the housings, and years of sand and grit grind flat spots into the wheels. The result is the door every homeowner knows — one that screeches down the track, jumps, sticks halfway, and finally takes a shoulder to move. By the time a door needs two hands, the rollers are usually destroyed and the panel is dragging steel-on-steel, chewing up the track a little more with every pull.
